Tips to Handle Projector Lamps

Projector lamps on a average would last for about 2000 hours and hence when it used for business purpose, 8 hours a day 5 days a week, the projector lamp must last for at least a year. Most of the projector lamp makers provide a RTB assurance for 3 months on new lamps at the time of purchase. There are manufacturers producing projector lamps and more care should be given while selecting a projector lamp.

A qualified professional who knows every thing about projector lamps should be engaged to change a new lamp into the projector housing. While replacing the lamps the terminals should not be over tightened because the ceramic insulation of the bulb can get damaged. At the same time the bulb should be fixed loosely as spark may be produced on the terminal, making excessive load on the ballast which may lead to breakdown of the lamp.

The procedure for replacing the projector lamp may vary based on the manufacturer. Hence the instruction manual should be used and followed carefully to replace the projector lamp whenever necessary. In the instruction manual the set by step procedure will be given to replace the new lamp in the module. Even a qualified person has to go through the manual once to get familiar with the design and model of the projector lamp.

While cleaning the projector a proper cloth should be used for cleaning and especially while cleaning or handling the lamp, all the time a proper cloth should be used. When you clean a lamp with your hand the fingerprints from your fingers will get imprinted in the bulb which may cause hot spots on the surface on the lamp, leading to early failure of the lamp. Air filters in the projector should be cleaned regularly. Poor maintenance of air filters will block the air flowing to cool the lamp and this may result in the failure of the lamp very early. Always there should be proper and good air circulation around the projector to cool it.

Projector should not be switched off by disconnecting the power and always a remote control should be used. When you turn of the projector with remote it will go into cool down mode. The lamp will be turned off and the fan will cool the lamp in a controlled approach. The lamp will operate in very huge temperature and when projector is switched off by disconnected the power the bulb will be cooled unevenly resulting in early failure of the lamp. So it is very important to switch off the power using the remote control as the cooling process will be performed to cool the lamp.

As soon as the projector is switched off it should not moved causing mechanical shock or vibration to the lamp as the lamp filament will be fragile when the projector is switched off. So before moving the projector, allow it to cool for some time. Also you can increase you lamp life by sing the low lamp option if available.
